A guide to choosing

Text tools

Start with the structure of your text. A paragraph, a list with one entry per line and a spreadsheet export need different operations. These tools help with plain text without requiring an account.

What do you want to do?

Check a writing target

Use the word and character counter for length limits, writing targets and reading or speaking estimates. Count again after making changes rather than assuming that editing only affects the word count.

  • Word and character counter

Change capitalization

Use the case converter for upper case, lower case, title case, sentence case or capitalized words. Review names and abbreviations afterward: automatic capitalization is not a grammar or spelling check.

  • Case converter

Clean or compare lists

Remove repeated entries from one list with the duplicate line remover. Use list comparison for two lists when you need shared entries, entries found in only one list, or a combined unique list. Check matching rules for spaces and capitalization.

Before you start

One line is not always one CSV record

Quoted CSV cells can contain line breaks. Use the CSV duplicate remover for spreadsheet data rather than removing text lines, which could break a valid record.

Matching rules change results

Ignoring case or trimming spaces may treat distinct entries as equal. Decide what a duplicate means before removing or comparing entries, and keep a copy of the source text.
