Average, Median and Mode Calculator
Calculate count, sum, arithmetic mean, median, all repeated modes, minimum, maximum and range from a pasted number list.
Processing stays in your browser. Drafts stay in memory; refreshing clears them.Up to 2 MiB and 100,000 values. Signed decimals only: 18 integer digits, 12 fractional digits. No grouping, exponents or units. Blank entries are ignored, never zero-filled.
How to calculate
- Paste signed decimals or import a UTF-8 .txt file. Choose newline, comma, semicolon or whitespace separation and dot or comma decimals.
- Calculate and review the count and ignored blanks. Invalid tokens stop the whole calculation with a line or token reference.
- Choose 0–12 decimal places. Precision changes display only, never the exact source values. Copy or download the summary, or explicitly download every sorted value.
Worked example: 1, 2, 2, 5
With comma delimiters and dot decimals, count is 4, sum 10, mean 2.5, median 2, mode 2 at frequency 2, minimum 1, maximum 5 and range 4.
Definitions and exact arithmetic
Mean is sum divided by count. Median is the middle sorted value, or the exact mean of the two middle values. Range is maximum minus minimum. Signed decimals use exact scaled integers and reduced fractions, not floating-point arithmetic: 0.1 and 0.2 sum to 0.3; 9007199254740992 and 9007199254740994 average to 9007199254740993.
All repeated values tied for highest frequency are modes, sorted numerically. If no value repeats, including a single-value dataset, the chosen presentation is “No repeated value”. Equivalent spellings such as 1, 1.0 and +01.000 are the same value.
Parsing and rounding rules
Use at most 18 integer and 12 fractional digits per value, with no grouping, exponent notation, units, Infinity, NaN or expressions. Comma delimiter is disabled with decimal comma; 1,5 means one decimal in comma-decimal newline mode but two integers in dot-decimal comma-delimiter mode. Token-edge whitespace is ignored. CRLF, LF and lone CR are equivalent newline separators; a final newline is a terminator, other empty entries are counted and ignored, never imputed as zero.
Empty input has no statistics. One value has zero range and equals its mean, median, minimum and maximum. Half-up display rounds away from zero at negative ties, suppresses negative zero and marks rounded decimals with ≈. Mean and median include exact reduced fractions.
Limits and privacy
Maximum 2 MiB and 100,000 values. These digit and count limits bound exact intermediate integers; calculations never silently switch to approximate arithmetic. Workers keep parsing and sorting off the UI thread; Cancel and edits discard obsolete results. Only the first 1,000 sorted values are displayed; downloads contain all values. The summary excludes the complete dataset unless you choose its separate export.
No spreadsheet uploads, charts, standard deviation, quantiles, inferential statistics or statistical advice. No input is placed in URLs, sent to analytics or saved in browser storage. Text is never executed. Clear offers in-memory Undo and clipboard failure leaves a selectable summary.
