File Size Converter

Convert exact bit and byte quantities across decimal and binary units, inspect local file-size metadata and export full precision.

Your inputs stay in your browser.

Nonnegative quantity: 18 whole and 12 fractional digits; dot or comma, no grouping or suffix. Fractional bits/bytes are permitted as abstract quantities. Exact Swap is refused rather than rounded when it exceeds the input grammar. Drafts stay in memory only; refreshing clears them. Processing and exports stay local.

Enter values or try an example, then choose Calculate / Generate.

How to use File Size Converter

Enter a quantity and explicit source/destination units, then Calculate. The selected displayed result, exact fraction and complete unit table have separate copy/download controls. Inspect file size reads only File.size, not content or filename. Exact Swap is refused when the target cannot fit the manual decimal grammar.

Worked example

1 MB is 1000000 bytes; 1 MiB is 1048576 bytes, or 1.048576 MB. 1 bit is 0.125 bytes. 1 GB is approximately 0.931322574615 GiB.

Rules and limits

18 whole and 12 fractional digits, one dot/comma separator, no grouping or exponents. Decimal units use powers of 1000; binary byte units use powers of 1024. Displays use 12 significant digits and scientific notation when needed; exact fractions avoid integer precision loss. Fractional bytes are abstract quantities, not exact file lengths. No compression, drive-capacity or transfer-time prediction.
